WEAR RED FOR WREXHAM!

We would prefer all walkers with Wrexham FC at heart to wear a Wrexham FC shirt or a red top so that it will make a great picture at the top of Wales!

SUNDAY 15TH JULY 2012 - INFORMATION

The Red Army Walk is to take place on Sunday 15th July 2012. For those with sponsors of over £50 we will arrange for free coach travel leaving the Turf Hotel at 8am on that day. Anyone wishing to make there own way to the Pen-Y-Pass car park, from where we will start our ascend up the Miners Track route at 10pm. The route we are undertaking is the ‘Miners Track’, which was built during the last century to serve the Britannia Copper Mines, which was abandoned in 1917. The route can become very busy at times and some people prefer to park elsewhere and use the Snowdon Sherpa Bus Station from nearby villages. Our coach will be dropping us off at the Pen-Y-Pass car park.

We will ascend on the left (south) end of the car park, the path heads off as a wide track south soon turning west to pass above the small Llyn Teryn. In about 2 km the path turns a sharp right, carry on and there is a small causeway that takes you over to Llyn Llydaw. The track now bears left along the lakes shore past the ruins of mineworkings.

It gets steeper with a rise to Llyn Glaslyn. Keep going along the path around the lake and after some derelict buildings make a steep rocky ascent to join with the Pyg Track coming in from the right. Follow the Pyg track up the Zig Zags to the Snowdon Railway marked by a 2m upright marker stone. Follow the railway left up to the summit.

It is said to be a three hour steady walk up to the top following this route, and half an hour less coming down! Once everyone has returned we will return to Wrexham on the coach.

Settled weather is rare on Snowdon and cannot be relied upon. So it makes sense to be prepared for a change. Please remember that inadequate footwear causes many accidents every year. Trainers give little ankle support and in spite of their tread give poor grip. We would always recommend good walking boots.

Questions & Answers

When is the Wrexham Supporters Trust Walk up Snowdon taking place?

The walk will take place on Sunday 15th July 2012. The coaches will be leaving from the Turf Hotel Wrexham at 8am. We will need everyone to fill in the registration form and hand in to us before leaving. We would prefer if you could do this in advance. We will also need to know how much sponsorship money you will raise once you have completed the walk.

Why has this walk been organised?

To help raise funds for Wrexham Supporters Trust in helping to keep our fans owned club - Wrexham Football Club as a secure and sustainable community football club.

How do I register?

You will need to register in advance by giving your name and letting us know if you require coach travel from the Turf in Wrexham to Pen-Y-Pass, nr Llanberis. Please email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or write to ‘Snowdon’ WST Freepost to do so. We will then issue you your registration number.

Is there a limit to the number of people able to take part?

For logistical and environmental reasons the maximum number of people taking part in the Snowdon walk will be limited to 200. To ensure that you are one of them it is advisable to register for the event as soon as you can. The web site will say if / when the maximum number has been reached.

How much money will I have to raise?

Obviously as much as you can, but while we’re asking all participants to aim to raise a minimum of £50, we hope everyone will raise a lot higher. You can download a sponsorship form from the Supporters Trust web site www.wst.org.uk

How should the funds I raise be paid to the Supporters Trust?

(1) Cash payable to a Trust Board member or handed in to the Trust Shop adjoining the Turf prior to home matches.

(2) Cheque made payable to ‘Wrexham Supporters Trust’ and sent to ‘Freepost WST’ – no stamp required.

Where is the starting point?

The starting point is the Pen-Y-Pass car park on the A4086 nr Llanberis (see map).

What time should I arrive at the start point?

The first groups of walkers will set off at around 10am. Those making there own way to Pen-Y-Pass will need to report your name to the Trust Board members before setting off on the walk, and inform them of your name and how much you have been sponsored for on the walk. Those travelling on the coaches can do this as they board the coaches.

What route will we be going up?

The route starts at the far left side of Pen-Y-Pass car park. Go through the gate leading onto the gravel track. Follow this winding, undulating track around the hillside. You pass a small tarn (pool) on your left as you continue on the good track. Soon you pass Llyn Teryn, on your left, the first of the lakes in the valley below Snowdon.

Stay on the track then soon you come to a causeway over Llyn Llydaw (reservoir). Cross it then turn left following the track part of the way round the reservoir. The path soon leaves the reservoir as it passes disused buildings and ascends over the hillside. You are soon directly below Snowdon beside Glaslyn Tarn. Again follow the hack around the tarn then as you go around a bend, look for a stone post and some steps leading up the hillside off to your right. This is where the Miners Track ascends to join the Pyg Track. Ascend the steps and around 150m higher you join the Pyg Track.

Continue on the Pyg Track now, which is an undulating stony rough path leading over the hillside. After 600m, you come to large stone steps, which zigzag and ascend the hillside steeply. Follow these to the ridge near the summit. You emerge by a large standing stone or monolith on the ridge.

Snowdon Mountain railway track is nearby and there are good views looking down the valley to Llanberis. Turn left to ascend the final section, which is the Llanberis path to the summit. This track is good to walk on and a gentle ascent. Nearing the summit you should see the café and to the left of it, the triangulation pillar on the summit.

Walk with care to the summit and enjoy the views in all directions then take a break in the café before returning.

How long will it take?

It is estimated that the walk will take between two and a half hours and three hours depending on the skill and fitness of each person. Remember it is a sponsored walk. We stress that this is NOT a race! You will be pleased to know that it should take half an hour less to descend! On a clear day the views are breathtaking so take them all in, and make sure you have your camera with you.

What happens when I get to the top?

In view of the number of people taking part we need to be careful to avoid congestion at the summit, both for safety and environmental reasons. We are looking to wait for the last person up before we take a ‘team photo’ of everyone wearing red Wrexham shirts! Until then please wait patiently, and do not clog the summit until we are ALL ready for the photo opportunity, as other walkers will want to take their own pictures. Please respect this and wait for the last person to join us before we have our ‘team’ photo. You can then start your descent down.

What sort of level of physical fitness will I need?

Those taking part will need to be reasonably fit and healthy. However, please remember that this is not a race to the top! Please take your time walking up; stopping to have rests when needed. Please note that at times you are required to scramble up rocks!

What if I have medical problems?

If you have any medical problems (epilepsy, diabetes, high blood pressure, and allergies for example) you should seek medical advice before registering for this event. The registration form asks you to let us know about any medical problems you may have so that we are aware and in case we need to organise assistance on the day.

What do I need to bring with me on the day?

Let’s hope for a nice day, but it is very important that everyone is prepared for all weathers. Nearing the summit of Snowdon, or any mountain for that matter can be cold and very windy with low cloud. Often it is the wind chill factor that causes problems for walkers. With this in mind, the following suggested items should help you complete the walk and stay warm and dry.

  • Walking boots/shoes

  • Walking socks including a spare set

  • Walking trousers – no jeans

  • Warm upper body clothing in layers. (Red Wrexham shirt a must!)

  • Gloves, woollen/fleece hat

  • Fleece/waterproof fabric outer jacket/cagoule over trousers

  • Day rucksack

  • Spare clothing in rucksack

  • Food, plastic drinks bottle.

  • Torch with spare bulb and batteries

  • Whistle, note paper and pencil

  • Basic first aid kit including plasters and Vaseline

  • Compass and guide map/book

Finally, don’t forget your camera for some superb photo opportunities.

Please note that alcohol should not be consumed before or on the walk itself.

Neu fe allwch chi fynd yn syth i faes parcio Pen-y-Pass, lle byddwn yn cychwyn ar ein taith i fyny Llwybr y Mwynwyr am 10 y bore. Byddwn yn dilyn ‘Llwybr y Mwynwyr’ i’r copa, llwybr a dorrwyd yn ystod y ganrif ddiwethaf i wasanaethu Mwynfeydd Copr Britannia, gwaith a ddaeth i ben yn 1917. Mae’r llwybr yn gallu bod yn brysur iawn ar adegau ac mae’n well gan rai pobl barcio yn rhywle arall a dal bws Sherpa’r Wyddfa o bentrefi cyfagos. Bydd ein bws ni yn ein gollwng ni ym maes parcio Pen-y-Pass.

Byddwn yn cychwyn o ben chwith (deheuol) y maes parcio, ar lwybr llydan sy’n mynd i gyfeiriad y de gan droi’n fuan i’r gorllewin i basio uwch ben Llyn Teyrn. Ymhen rhyw 2km mae’r llwybr yn troi’n sydyn i’r dde, ac wedyn yn mynd dros sarn fechan sy’n arwain at Lyn Llydaw. Mae’r llwybr yn cadw i’r chwith ar hyd glan y llyn heibio i adfeilion y gweithfeydd.

Aiff y llwybr yn fwy serth wrth ddringo at Lyn Glaslyn. Daliwch i fynd ar hyd y llwybr o gwmpas y llyn ac ar ôl pasio ambell adfail dringwch y creigiau serth i ymuno â Llwybr Pen-y-gwryd ar y llaw dde. Dilynwch y llwybr hwnnw’n igam ogam i fyny i Fwlch Glas i ymuno â’r rheilffordd, lle mae maen yn sefyll i nodi’r llwybr. Dilynwch y rheilffordd i’r chwith i fyny i’r copa.

Dywedir bod cerdded y llwybr yma i’r copa’n cymryd tair awr o gerdded cyson, a hanner awr yn llai i ddod i lawr! Unwaith y bydd pawb wedi dod yn ôl byddwn yn dychwelyd i Wrecsam ar y bws.

Peth prin ydi tywydd sefydlog ar yr Wyddfa a does dim dal arno. Felly peth call ydi bod yn barod am newid. Cofiwch fod esgidiau annigonol yn achosi peth wmbredd o ddamweiniau bob blwyddyn. Ychydig o gynhaliaeth y mae trenyrs yn ei roi i’r fferau, a dydyn nhw ddim yn gafael yn dda iawn chwaith. Esgidiau cerdded da amdani bob tro felly.

Cwestiwn ac Ateb

Pryd mae Taith Gerdded Ymddiriedolaeth Cefnogwyr Wrecsam i fyny’r Wyddfa’n digwydd?

Cynhelir y daith ddydd Sul 15 Gorffennaf 2012. Bydd y bysus yn gadael Gwesty’r Turf yn Wrecsam am 8 y bore. Bydd angen i bawb lenwi’r ffurflen gofrestru a’i rhoi i ni cyn gadael. Gorau oll os gallwch wneud hyn ymlaen llaw. Bydd angen inni wybod hefyd faint o arian nawdd y byddwch yn ei godi unwaith y byddwch wedi cwblhau’r daith.

Pam trefnu’r daith hon?

I helpu codi arian i Ymddiriedolaeth Cefnogwyr Wrecsam i helpu cadw ein clwb – Clwb Pêl-droed Wrecsam – yn ddiogel ac yn gynaliadwy ym meddiant y gymuned.

Sut mae cofrestru?

Bydd angen cofrestru ymlaen llaw drwy roi eich enw a gadael inni wybod a fyddwch chi angen dod yn y bws o’r Turf yn Wrecsam i Ben-y-Pass ger Llanberis. Ebostiwch This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . Neu gallwch ysgrifennu at ‘Yr Wyddfa, WST FREEPOST’. Wedyn fe gewch chi rif cofrestru gennym.

Oes yna derfyn ar faint o bobl gaiff gymryd rhan?

Am resymau ymarferol ac amgylcheddol ni chaiff mwy na 200 o bobl ddod ar y daith gerdded i fyny’r Wyddfa. I wneud yn siŵr eich bod chi’n un ohonynt cofrestrwch cyn gynted ag y gallwch. Bydd y wefan yn dweud os/pan fydd y daith yn llawn.

Faint o arian fydd raid i mi ei godi?

Gorau po fwyaf, wrth gwrs, ond er ein bod yn gofyn i bawb anelu at godi o leiaf £50, y gobaith yw y bydd pawb yn codi llawer mwy. Gallwch lawrlwytho ffurflen noddi o wefan yr Ymddiriedolaeth Cefnogwyr www.wst.org.uk

Sut ddylwn i dalu’r arian i’r Ymddiriedolaeth?

(1) Gellir talu arian parod i aelod o Fwrdd yr Ymddiriedolaeth neu ei roi i mewn yn Siop yr Ymddiriedolaeth nesaf at y Turf cyn gemau cartref.

(2) Gallwch anfon siec yn daladwy i ‘Ymddiriedolaeth Cefnogwyr Wrecsam’ i ‘Freepost WST’ – dim angen stamp.

Ble mae’r man cychwyn?

Y man cychwyn yw maes parcio Pen-y-Pass ar yr A4086 uwchben Llanberis (gweler y map).

Am faint o’r gloch ddylwn i gyrraedd y man cychwyn?

Bydd y criwiau cyntaf yn cychwyn cerdded tua 10 y bore. Os ydych yn mynd eich ffordd eich hun i Ben-y-Pass bydd angen rhoi eich enw i aelod o Fwrdd yr Ymddiriedolaeth cyn cychwyn cerdded a dweud faint o nawdd rydych chi wedi’i gasglu. Gall y rhai sy’n teithio ar y bysus wneud hynny ar y bws.

Pa lwybr fyddwn ni’n ei ddringo?

Byddwn y llwybr yn cychwyn o ben chwith pellaf maes parcio Pen-y-Pass. Ewch drwy’r giât i’r llwybr gro. Dilynwch y llwybr troellog hwn o amgylch godre’r bryn, gan fynd heibio i lyn bach ar y chwith ac ymlaen ar y llwybr da. Yn fuan byddwch yn pasio Llyn Teyrn, ar y chwith ichi, y cyntaf o’r llynnoedd yn y cwm islaw’r Wyddfa.

Daliwch i ddilyn y llwybr nes dod at sarn dros gronfa Llyn Llydaw. Croeswch hi, wedyn troi i’r chwith gan ddilyn y llwybr ran o’r ffordd o amgylch y gronfa ddŵr. Toc bydd y llwybr yn gadael y llyn gan basio adfeilion a dringo ochr y mynydd. Yn fuan byddwch yn union o dan yr Wyddfa wrth ymyl Llyn Glaslyn. Eto dilynwch y llwybr o amgylch y llyn ac wrth i’r llwybr droi gwyliwch am bostyn carreg a grisiau’n arwain i fyny’r mynydd ar y dde. Dyma lle mae Llwybr y Mwynwyr yn codi i ymuno â Llwybr Pen-y-gwryd. Dringwch y grisiau a thua 150m yn uwch i fyny byddwch yn ymuno â’r llwybr hwnnw.

Ewch ymlaen ar Lwybr Pen-y-gwryd, llwybr garw caregog sy’n ymdroelli i fyny’r llethrau. Ar ôl 600m, dewch at risiau carreg mawr, sy’n dringo’r llethr serth yn igam-ogam. Dilynwch y rhain at y grib nid nepell o’r copa. Dewch allan wrth garreg fawr neu faen hir, ar y grib.

Mae rheilffordd Trên Bach yr Wyddfa gerllaw a cheir golygfeydd da i lawr y dyffryn i Lanberis. Trowch i’r chwith i ddringo’r rhan olaf, sef darn olaf llwybr Llanberis i’r copa. Llwybr hawdd i’w gerdded yw hwn, yn codi’n raddol at y brig. Wrth nesáu at y copa dylech weld y caffi, ac ar y chwith iddo, y piler triongli ar y copa.

Cerddwch gan bwyll at y copa a mwynhau’r olygfa i bob cyfeiriad, wedyn cymerwch hoe yn y caffi cyn cychwyn i lawr yn ôl.

Pa mor hir fydd hi’n ei gymryd?

Amcangyfrifir y bydd y daith yn cymryd rhwng dwy awr a hanner a thair awr, yn dibynnu ar allu a ffitrwydd pob unigolyn. Cofiwch mai taith noddedig yw hon; rhaid pwysleisio NAD ras mohoni! Byddwch yn falch o wybod y dylai gymryd hanner awr yn llai i ddod i lawr! Ar ddiwrnod clir mae’r golygfeydd yn fendigedig, felly cofiwch fynd â chamera efo chi a gwneud y mwyaf ohonynt.

Beth sy’n digwydd ar ôl cyrraedd y copa?

Gyda chymaint o bobl yn cymryd rhan mae angen gofalu osgoi gorboblogi’r copa, am resymau diogelwch ac amgylcheddol ill dau. Y bwriad yw aros i’r dringwr olaf gyrraedd cyn tynnu ‘llun tîm’ o bawb yn eu crysau Wrecsam coch! Tan hynny gobeithio y gwnewch chi aros yn amyneddgar a pheidio heidio ar yr un pryd i’r copa nes bydd PAWB yn barod am y llun, achos bydd cerddwyr eraill yno yn awyddus i gael tynnu’u lluniau eu hunain. Gofynnwn ichi barchu hyn ac aros am yr aelod olaf cyn i ni gael tynnu ein ‘llun tîm’. Wedyn gallwch gychwyn yn ôl i lawr..

Pa lefel o ffitrwydd corfforol sy’n angenrheidiol?

Bydd angen i bawb sy’n cymryd rhan fod yn weddol ffit ac iach. Ond cofiwch nad ras i’r copa ydi hwn! Cymerwch eich amser wrth gerdded i fyny; arhoswch i gymryd hoe bob hyn a hyn. Sylwer y bydd angen sgramblo i fyny creigiau o bryd i’w gilydd!

Beth os oes gen i broblemau meddygol?

Os oes gennych chi broblemau meddygol (epilepsi, clefyd siwgwr, pwysedd gwaed uchel, neu alergedd, er enghraifft) dylech gael cyngor meddygol cyn cofrestru ar gyfer y digwyddiad yma. Mae’r ffurflen gofrestru’n gofyn ichi roi gwybod inni am unrhyw broblemau meddygol sydd gennych er mwyn inni fod yn ymwybodol a rhag ofn y bydd angen galw am gymorth ar y dydd.

Beth sydd angen imi ddod gyda mi ar y dydd?

Gobeithio y cawn ni ddiwrnod braf, ond mae’n bwysig iawn fod pawb yn barod ar gyfer pob tywydd. Wrth gyrraedd copa’r Wyddfa, neu unrhyw fynydd o ran hynny, gall fod yn oer a gwyntog iawn gyda chymylau isel. Yn aml, yr awel fain sy’n peri i rywun rynnu ac yn achosi problemau i gerddwyr. Gyda hyn mewn golwg, dyma eitemau yr awgrymir y dylech eu cael i’ch helpu i gwblhau’r daith a chadw’n gynnes a sych.

  • Esgidiau cerdded

  • Sanau cerdded, a phâr wrth gefn

  • Trywsus cerdded – dim jîns

  • Dillad cynnes ar ran ucha’r corff yn haenau. (Crys coch Wrecsam yn hanfodol!!)

  • Menig, het wlân/cnu

  • Siaced allanol o gnu/defnydd gwrth-ddŵr/cagŵl dros y trywsus
