Thank you, Gwynne Hughes
FIRSTLY, for those of you who may not have heard it we would like to say a very big thank you. We received a gift of £34,600 in the Will of Mr Gwynne Hughes of Stansty, Wrexham. This extremely kind and generous act was from a man who was a true Wrexham fan, who championed the team in the local press and who was attending matches until just a few weeks before his death.
Mr Hughes, who wrote for the Wrexham Leader under the name Spartan, have his generous bequest to boost the WSTs fund aimed at gaining fans representation on the board of Wrexham Football Club and was one of the reasons why we have reached our original Target 250.We have said it before, but it bears saying again - would like to posthumously thank Mr Hughes for his generous legacy, and to extend this gratitude to his family, friends and executors of the will..
Fans like Mr Hughes understand why we are raising money, what that money is intended for and why we will continue our fundraising now we have reached the original target. Our aim will remain to be gaining a seat on Wrexhams board and the chance for fans to have their say on what goes on at a club which is part of the fabric of our local community.
That community still needs to get behind the team, as we said last week. It has been a dispiriting experience being a Wrexham fan in recent weeks Saturdays Wycombe game was a very disappointing display- but the team needs to be supported, not booed. We can do this, the team can do this but a show is support is vital for everyones confidence.
We hope such support will be evident this weekend when we play Peterborough a team which now has more than a few links to Wrexham after a certain new manager was appointed there. It will be interesting to see just what it is like taking on Ferguson Jrs boys on the pitch and weather permitting it should be an interesting match.
As should another one coming up soon the local derby with Chester on February 18. Dont forget, this is an all ticket match and the kick off is at noon.
