Fans loan Wrexham FC £15k
WREXHAM Supporters Trust are backing new Wrexham FC manager Dean Saunders with a £15,000 interest-free loan to strengthen his squad.
The no-strings five year loan is seen as a first step in healing the acrimonious rift which has developed between the Trust and those running the club.
Only last month owner Geoff Moss banned the Trust from contributing to the official match day programme and selling its merchandise in the new Racecourse superstore.
He made it clear he would have no dealings with the Trust while the organisation continued to pursue its aim of obtaining a shareholder stake in the Blue Square Premier outfit.
But now the board of Wrexham Supporters Trust has voted overwhelmingly to make £15k available.
Lyndsay Jones of the WST said there were still issues that needed sorting out with the club, but this was a gesture of good faith.
“The £15,000 comes from the AGM in summer when the money was set aside,” he said.
“We were very specific about we wanted the money to be spent towards strengthening the squad, which could mean toward buying players, cover a player on loan or wages – whatever Dean Saunders feels appropriate.”
Yesterday club director Paul Atkinson said: “We are quite happy with what the Trust is doing and think this is a good step in the right direction.
“We are trying to rejuvenate the relationship with the Trust and this is their move, which we appreciate. It is better to have a good relationship than a slanging match.”
