Wrexham Supporters Trust bid to acquire Wrexham FC
Last week we reported that financial and legal due diligence was due to begin the week commencing the 6th June. Following further discussions with Wrexham Village this week we are pleased to report that progress has been made in this area. Further to the statement on the club's website on Saturday, June 11th, we can confirm that - as of Friday, June 10th - we are in receipt of the majority of financial and legal due diligence information. We now plan to work through this with our professional advisors during the coming week with the aim of submitting a report to the Board the week commencing June 20th.
Community Share Scheme: The Board met this week to discuss the launch of the escrow account and proposed Community Share Scheme and has decided to develop a PR campaign to accompany its public launch in the coming weeks. This is partly in response to the discussions on Red Passion and the need to ensure that our message is clear and the case for implementing this type of scheme is made effectively. We are also in the process of developing a detailed FAQ to answer supporters' queries.
Meeting with Wrexham Council: Representatives of the Trust Board met with representatives of Wrexham Council this week to outline the Trusts proposal to acquire Wrexham FC, the Racecourse and Colliers. We plan to have more talks in the coming weeks to explore mutual strategic objectives for the Council and WST.
Local Politicians: We have received requests from both Ian Lucas MP and new Health and Social Care Minister, Lesley Griffiths AM to update them on our progress, which we plan to do next week. In particular, we plan to discuss the potential role that a community-run Wrexham FC could play in improving the health and well-being of its supporters.
National Politicians: We have also been invited to brief Dr Kay Swinburne MEPs Communications Strategy Officer in Cardiff on our bid to acquire Wrexham FC, the Racecourse and Colliers Park, which we plan to do this coming week. Supporters may recall Dr Swinburne being one of a number of politicians to publicly support our bid recently.
Fundraising: A meeting was held by the WST Fundraising Team last Thursday (9th June) to agree its strategy and main areas of focus, in anticipation of a successful bid to takeover Wrexham FC, the Racecourse and Colliers Park. The team agreed that the key areas of focus would be: Merchandise, Events, Red Army & Membership Drive.
Snowdon sponsored walk: A proposed date for the sponsored walk up Snowdon has now been decided upon and will take place on Sunday 17th July. Everyone taking part in the walk will be asked to wear Red Wrexham tops in support of this Red Army fundraising initiative. To make things easy and to encourage as many fans as possible to take up this challenge, free transport will be provided for anyone who raises over £20 in sponsorship.
WST Sales Team: Following on from the success of last weeks stall on Hope Street in Wrexham Town Centre, Lindsay Jones and friends raised £316.01 from sales of WST merchandise and £36 from signing up three new members, a total of £352.01 and an increase of £85.02 on last week.
Many thanks to Red Passionites Bobby Shinton, Statto, Griff92. Taid Tom, Ladyred (and dad), Dave Mainwaring , Wilbobisback and PaulM for making this possible.
National Eisteddfod 2011: The National Eisteddfod of Wales is one of the largest cultural events in Europe. It is an important celebration of Welsh heritage, culture and language and will be held this year in Wrexham at Lower Berse Farm just off Ruthin Road on the outskirts of the town, from July 30th through to August 6th. The Trust Board believes that it is important that the WST is represented at such a prestigious event and is currently considering plans to host a stall at the event.
Red Army: We officially announced our 'Red Army' initiative via the Press last Wednesday (7th June), subsequent to the success of the public meeting held at the Wrexham Lager Club (4th June 2011). To date we have received numerous offers of help and will commence compiling a database of details for future reference. Dedicated project forms are currently in the process of being printed and will be available shortly. It is our intention to include a copy of this form (amongst others) within the AGM meeting notice that will be sent to all members shortly.
Membership: Membership of the Trust continues to rise steadily to 1139, although we are keen to increase this total further. Please continue to help us spread the word by inviting friends and family to sign up to growing membership. As ever, please feel free to forward this email onto your friends or ask them to sign up here.
Yma o Hyd: Just a reminder that the WST version of Yma o Hyd (Still here) is available to view via You Tube (download). It's an inspiring view, both visually and audibly and we thoroughly recommend it to all members and fans alike. One for the 'favourites' list!
