Wanted! Wrexham fans to help raise £25k!
Wrexham Supporters Trust have agreed to put all money raised by Wrexham fans from this years Snowdon walk as extra to Kevin Wilkin's players budget for next season.
Trust Chairman Peter Jones stated; "With Wrexham Football Club continuing to celebrate its 150th Anniversary year, the board wanted to find extra funds for Kevin Wilkin, and felt that fans could do that by walking up Snowdon to raise extra funds for Kevin Wilkin's playing budget for next season. That means every penny raised from the walk being spent on a new player!
"We are looking for 150 Wrexham fans to make the walk and in doing so look to raise a minimum of £150 each to help raise the £25k plus towards the fund. We have had twenty fans so far register, but we need 150!
The walk is to take place on Sunday 29th June 2014, and the ascent will start from the Pen-Y-Pass car park up the Miners Track route at 10am. Wrexham Supporters Trust will put on coaches departing from Wrexham at 8am, as there is minimal parking at the Pen-Y-Pass car park.
Those taking part will need to be reasonably fit and healthy. However, please remember that this is not a race to the top! And we encourage everyone to take their time walking up; and stopping to have rests when needed. Please note that at times you are required to scramble up rocks! The walk takes between three and four hours to reach the top, and between two and a half and three hours to descend.
Peter Jones added; "We have also invited 150 other Supporters Trusts / Supporters groups to join us in making the walk to raise funds for their own Trust / Club.
"We have so far had a very good response with club's such as Bury, Hereford, Port Vale, Coventry, Blackpool, Kidderminster, Huddersfield, Wycombe, FC United, 1874 Northwich, Worcester City, and even our close rivals Chester, plus teams as far away as Newcastle, Grimsby, Tottenham and Plymouth.
"AFC Hinckley are also making the walk raising funds towards their newly formed club for the new season, all looking to raise funds for their organisations within the football world. We have also had interest shown from Ireland and Shamrock Rovers!
We have requested that everyone wear the football shirt of his or her team (over warm clothing) for an unforgettable photograph opportunity at the top of Snowdon.
