Boom Banger 2Wrexham FC is marking their 150th anniversary year by entering a car in the Boom Banger Rally this month.

The car, a classic Volkswagen Beetle, will race across Europe, taking in iconic destinations including France, Switzerland, Italy and Monaco during a 3 Day Scramble

This is the first time ever that Wrexham FC has entered this classic European rally race. Heading Wrexham FC’s driving team is Commercial Manager Steven Cook along with Wrexham and Manchester United legend, Mickey Thomas.

The team of 4, including fans Mike Cooper and Michael Bradshaw will set off from the Stadium on Thursday before travelling across France to the principality of Monaco.

Mickey Thomas said: “I am really looking forward to the race. Although it’s a long, long way, I am sure it will be a really good laugh for all of us taking part. More importantly it’s great for the football club. Not only will we be raising the profile of the club in its 150th year on the trip, but we’ll be raising much needed funds for the club too.”

As a marketing initiative designed to develop the Football Club brand and also showcase some of our key clients Steve commented, “It’s an event I heard about on the radio some time back and a lot of effort has gone into making this happen.  I’ve been wanting to develop a marketing vehicle for some time at little cost to the club and this event gave us the opportunity to achieve that.  Our 11 advertisers have been absolutely fantastic and a huge thank you goes out to Wrexham Signs and Wilsons Accident repair for making this happen.  These key Sponsors include:

  • Walker Smith Way
  • Wilsons Accident Repair
  • Evans Halshaw
  • Corbetts
  • The Daily Post
  • TRMC/MICC Group of Companies
  • A H Plant Hire
  • Universal Builders
  • Spire Hospital
  • Gap Personnel

The race begins on Thursday, August 21 and finishes on Tuesday, August 26, with all Mickey's antics due to be filmed and reported back on a daily basis.  Upon it’s return, the vehicle will then be used throughout the Anniversary year as a promotional tool to showcase our new kit and raise awareness of the club throughout the region.
