Mark JONES - Candidate Statement
My name is Mark Jones, I am 52 years of age, Wrexham born, and have lived in Wrexham all my life. (Excepting 18 months working in Southern France although my home was still in Wrexham). I am married with 2 adopted special needs children (21 & 13 years of age).
I am an experienced operational leader with a track record of achieving in every role I have undertaken. I have been recognised (by my employers) as a problem solver and strategist and have often been deployed into problem internal areas / external customers to assess, introduce, refine or change processes and procedures producing bottom line results quickly.
I have a broad experience of the workings, procedures & policies of various businesses including (but not limited to) automotive, banking, financial services, manufacturing and construction. These skills, combined with an ability to recruit and develop the right teams, ensures that whatever the product, service or business area I have controlled, they were innovative, progressive, compliant and constantly evolving to hit the targets and expectations of the business.
My roles and responsibilities have been varied but include; Operations & Marketing Manager, Senior Operations Manager in the largest independent finance house in the UK, Internal Audit Manager, Risk Manager, Block Discounting Manager, Wholesale Funding Manager, Complaints Manager and Transport Manager.
Areas I have managed have had budgets in excess of £30m and I have been responsible for the risk management of up to £1bn of employers monies.
I have held personal underwriting mandates up to £750k.
I am computer literate and have a better than average ability with the usual office IT systems e.g. Microsoft products like Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access & Outlook. I am also able to very quickly learn new IT systems I am introduced to.
Having just taken a six-month sabbatical from employment I have, in the last month, begun to seek new challenges and have started part time employment as the Operations Manager in a local training business working 3 days per week. I therefore have spare capacity within the working week in addition to evenings and weekends.
I am fully committed to the principles of Wrexham Supporters Trust (WST) and recognise that, not only did the WST rescue Wrexham Football Club (WFC) in its most dire position, but it has managed it into the most secure position it has been in for many years. However, as I’m sure you’ll agree, now is not the time for the WST to sit on its laurels and I feel that I can contribute to the WST with my skills and time to further secure the position of WFC.
I have been a supporter of the club since the first game my father took me to (Port Vale) in April of 1973 and, whilst being no ‘statto’, I remember that the score was a 5-0 win and that there was lots of trouble outside of the ground.
I am a season ticket holder along with one of my daughters and regularly attend away matches.
I believe I have many skills which could be used by the Trust/WFC in a variety of areas, as can be seen from my employment history above.
