Sarah SMITH-HOWARD – Candidate Statement
My name is Sarah Smith-Howard, I would like to be considered by my fellow WST members for an elected place on the trust board.
At the beginning of last season I applied for the co opted position, to fill a skills gap on the current trust board. I was successfully interviewed by the chairman and commercial manager, I have been full steam ahead ever since.
I have been an active trust board member working with the fundraising team, with great success. We have worked extremely hard to successfully increasing our profile within the Wrexham area, working together with other fundraising arms and supporters groups, attracting new non-Wrexham fan revenue, 'milking the same cow' is always at the forefront of my mind. My proudest moment being the 'fans night of thanks' a personal love child of mine, which was not only an amazing night, but our way of giving something back to our loyal fans for their love and support.
Part of my co opted position also involved working very closely with the commercial manager to enhance our retail and hospitality offering. Delivering what has been an incredibly successful year in retail sales, we still have room for further growth in the area and would like the opportunity to continue building on our successes.
In my professional career I am business manager for New Look, having experience in an array of commercial aspects of a high profile, fast paced business. With control of profit and loss, local and regional marketing, recruitment, management 'store of excellence' training, together with regional champion for business insights to build better, stronger customer relationships and drive positive bottom-line results.
Since 2009, I have been part of the New Look Foundation, responsible for regional fundraising events in both greater Manchester and Merseyside area. This has included coordinating many things from black tie dinners, Santa dash, 3 peak walks, pretty muddy, car boot sales to cake sales in store... As a company we have raised over £1 million since the Foundation started 8 years ago with money raised for various UK charities.
I would also consider my experience in supporting my sister in setting up a very successful wedding planning and event coordinating business, this gave me valuable experience with everything from wedding shows and consultations with potential clients, negotiating with companies to ensure goods and services were competitive against other providers to dressing venues and managing events, this included high profile venues in both Cheshire and Liverpool with great success.
All of the above skills, I believe to be useful to the WST and football club going forward. Everything that has assisted me in developing into the person I am today. I am a strong, determined woman, I have the ability to communicate with a variety of people on all different levels and have made some great friends at Wrexham already and look forward to continuing to meet new people and build relationships. I believe I can not only enhance the Wrexham supporters trust which we already do an amazing job at, but bring an alternative more corporate approach to our trust board.
I do believe that life is meant for living and that you get out of life what you put in, with this in mind I put my all into everything that I do, whether this is my career, my family, my social life or my passions.
I am extremely motivated and results driven, but more than anything I love being part of the Wrexham family, always wanting our club to do well both on and off the pitch and I feel I have the time and energy to make this happen.
Proud past, exciting future!
