Directors for the Day - Eastleigh

Our Directors for the Day at the Eastleigh match were Thomas Downer and his father, Mark.

Thomas and Mark DownerFollowing the game, Thomas sent us the following message:

'I was delighted to have been selected via a members competition on Facebook, to be a Director for the Day at Wrexham FC v Eastleigh on Saturday 8th December. My father, a long standing Wrexham FC fan since the early 1960s, accompanied me for the afternoon.

Our host was Rob Stock and he made us welcome from the start.

We commenced the afternoon by meeting some of the WFC directors, including the welcoming Spencer Harris, as well as other club officials. These included the legendary Dixie McNeil. We discussed a wide range of Wrexham FC and general football topics over a tasty roast dinner. The officials were keen to hear our views on the club and team matters. We learned a lot about the behind the scenes operations at the club but, sadly, we’re not given any clues as to our new manager. It will definitely not be my dad despite his offer to take up the position!

During the game we sat in the directors box, thankfully behind the Eastleigh directors, who couldn't see our joyous celebrations when their team went a goal down after only 2 minutes.

After an eventful first half we retreated to the warmth of the board room for tea and coffee. We were soon back outside in the stand for the second half. We enjoyed from our excellent vantage point (with padded seats!) what turned out to be a well earned victory for our team. The Directors were more than pleased to return to winning ways after 3 games without a win. Following the departure of Sam Ricketts the win was exactly what the Directors hoped for. There was further all round delight when other results went our way.

Our afternoon concluded by being present at the Man of the Match presentation to popular stalwart Mark Carrington.
It was rewarding to see first hand how dedicated the Directors and staff that we met are. WFC relies on many volunteer staff and all the club representatives we met are keen supporters and all have WFC at heart. We left them contemplating the FA Cup trip to Newport and the daunting task of selecting a new manager for our famous football club. All in all we had a memorable and enjoyable day in the company of the hard working custodians of WFC. '

It was a pleasure to host Thomas and Mark in the boardroom and we are delighted that they both enjoyed their day so much. If you would like to be in with a chance of winning one of our future competitions to be 'Director for the Day', then head over to the Wrexham Supporters Trust Facebook page, give it a like and keep a look out for our next competition.
