Junior Dragons Enjoy Bowling Bash

group shotJunior and Youth Dragon members enjoyed a half term Bowling Bash alongside members of the first team squad at Tenpin, Eagles Meadow.

Nearly 50 members attended this year's event alongside first team players Leo Smith, Nicky Deverdics and Akil Wright.

With a trophy to be won for both the highest scoring Junior and Youth Dragon player, there was a competitive edge to the bowling. Congratulations to Aled Jones, aged 10, for claiming the Junior Dragon trophy and to Lydia Horner, aged 12, for winning the Youth Dragon trophy. The players were no less competitive but were playing purely for personal pride, we’ll leave it to them to reveal who won that battle!

Our thanks go to all of our members for attending, to Tenpin for being fantastic hosts and to the players who kindly gave up their day off to support the event.

Remember to follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/juniordragonswrexham and Twitter at www.twitter.com/juniordragons1 for more photos from this event and for news of forthcoming events.

Grassroots Youth Football Day Review

Wrexham AFC’s inaugural ‘Grassroots Youth Football Day’ at last Saturday’s home game against Dagenham and Redbridge was a huge success and we were delighted to welcome over 1,300 children and adults associated with over fifty different local youth football clubs to the Racecourse.

Attending teams had purchased discounted tickets in the lower paddocks of the Glyndwr University Stand and BKoncepts Stand and in a block of the Hays Travel Stand. They were treated to a 1-0 victory that saw the Dragons climb to 3rd place in the league in Bryan Hughes’s first game as manager.

The teams were led out by Brymbo Lodge Under 11’s, who had won our competition to be mascots for the game.

The event was organised by WST Governing Body Director, Robert Stock, and following the event he said ‘It was a pleasure to see so many children enjoying the chance to experience the excitement of watching a game at the Racecourse, which for many was their first ever visit to the stadium. I would like to thank the many group leaders that took the time to arrange their team’s attendance, to Matt Jones and Dan Sear in the club shop for their hard work in selling match tickets and to Ceris Walker and Ffion Walker for doing a superb job looking after our match day mascots.’

Officials from the Wrexham and Flintshire youth football leagues also joined us in the boardroom as special guests on the day. Maureen Jones, Secretary of the Queensferry Sports Flintshire Junior and Youth Football League, contacted us after the game and said ‘Thank you for your hospitality and for the hard work you put into organising this event. Every club had a brilliant day out and would like to express their appreciation to Wrexham Football Club for allowing them this opportunity. They also said it was good to make friends with players from the Wrexham League.’

Everyone at Wrexham AFC would like to thank all the attending teams for their support of the event and we hope to see them back at the Racecourse soon.

Statement from WST Independent Secretary

I am the independent secretary of Wrexham Supporters Trust. I am not a club director or trust board member. My role is to advise the Trust and ensure it acts legally and within the Rules. My role provides an insight into many aspects of trust and club business. I do not speak for either.

I make this statement now because I am very concerned about the level of abuse directed at certain individual directors especially on social media. Members should question and challenge decisions by their elected representatives - they have delegated power and responsibility to them. It’s one of the many advantages of supporter ownership. Although board members cannot always reveal the sensitive information behind some of those decisions or provide all of the detail about why events occurred. Sometimes for legal reasons.

Importantly, decisions by the club board are made by all directors. They share collective responsibility as do the trust board for their decisions. There will be an opportunity for members to question the board(s) about recent events. To single out individual directors is unfair and illogical and when it’s abusive is completely unacceptable. I’m sure the vast majority of fair minded Wrexham fans would agree with that.

And so I would reassure members that decisions made by the boards are made in good faith with the best interests of the Club in mind.  People may disagree with them but please refrain from abusing individual volunteers. Instead use the procedures that exist to question your board members starting with tonight’s members meeting.

Thank you.

Alan Fox
