WST AGM Reminder

Just a reminder to members that the closing date for nominations for the Trust Board is Monday 27th May 2019.

There are four vacancies on the Trust Board. During the course of the year board member Richard Ulrich stood down and recently board member Mark Jones has indicated that for personal reasons he is not in a position to continue. Mike Lewis has also given notice that, for similar reasons, he will not be able to continue in post beyond the AGM. We would like to thank Richard, Mark and Mike for all their hard work and contributions during their time on the board. Although no board member is subject to the three year rule this year, Peter Jones has indicated that he will stand down (and seek re-election) to ensure there are four vacancies.

The rules provide for an election management group to oversee the process consisting of the independent secretary, a trust member not on the board (this year Clive Popplewell) and someone not connected with the Trust - this year we will be assisted by Richard Lynes non-executive director of Chester FC.

For details of the process and also about resolutions for the AGM please see http://wst.org.uk/www3/index.php/component/k2/item/5397-notice-of-wst-annual-general-meeting-2019

The AGM will be held on Thursday 27 June at 7:30pm in the Centenary Club.

Thank you

Thinking about standing for the Trust Board?

Here is some information to help you decide.

Who can stand for the Trust Board? - Any person wishing to stand for election to the Board must be a Trust member at least 90 days prior to the closing date for nominations and be nominated by at least two Trust members. The candidate’s membership, and those of the two members nominating him or her, must be no more than six weeks in arrears prior to the date of nomination.

Who are the Trust Board? - The Trust Board consists of between twelve and fifteen Board members. Most are elected by the membership and can serve for 3 years before having to seek re-election, but some Board members are co-opted during the year to do specific tasks. There is also an appointed Secretary. All Board members have to act in accordance with the Trust Rules and polices including the Board membership policy (available on the Trust website under “downloads”).

What does the Trust Board do? -As a community benefit society, the Trust is required by law to have a Board to conduct its business in accordance with the Rules.

The Trust Board is the Governing Body of Wrexham AFC, it meets every month and delegates some functions to sub groups led by Board members. It also conducts business via its intranet. The sub groups are the Fans Ownership group, the Revenue Generation Group, the Community Group and the Football Operations Group (consisting of those Trust Board members who are also nominated to sit on the Football Club Board).

Key topics dealt with by these groups will include membership, volunteering, media and communications, finances and fundraising. The Trust’s
Vision going forward is to “strengthen a successful, financially stable, fans-owned professional football club at the heart of our communities and which unites half a nation”.

The Board’s three broad key aims are to develop fans ownership, secure financial stability and generate additional revenue whilst ensuring we progress as a community football club.

How does the Trust Board differ from the Football Club Board? - The Football Club is wholly owned by the Trust but has a separate Board of Directors who are responsible for the day to day operational running of the Club. Four Trust Board members also sit on the Club Board. As well as carrying out the work of the Trust, the Trust Board provides strategy and direction to the Club Board.

If you want to know more about the work of the Trust Board please contact Alan Fox on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. How will the Elections be organised? - In accordance with our Election Policy the elections will be run by an Election Management Group consisting of an independent person, a Trust member and Alan Fox (Independent WST Secretary).

How do I stand for election?Complete the attached Nominations Form, Complete the Candidates Statement and send both to Alan Fox, Secretary WST AGM, ’WST Freepost’ by Monday 27th May 2019. 2019/20 Wrexham AFC #PickTheKit Results

Wrexham Supporters Trust and Wrexham AFC are delighted to announce the results from this years #PickTheKit vote.

Shirts Story

Home shirt C and away shirt B won this years vote meaning that your team will be playing in the brand new ‘Alhena’ shirt design from Macron next season.

The winning home shirt is traditional Wrexham red and white with thin detailed stripes while the away shirt is ice white with striking red details.

The home shirt vote was close all the way through the process between B & C with 50 votes separating them in the end.

The away vote was between shirts A & B, voting was close for a while but B ran away with it in the end by a large percentage.

We hope that your favourite won and that these shirts will prove to be a massive success once again.

Year on year we see larger than before sales mostly thanks to the excellent guaranteed stock levels provided by Macron Store Wrexham.

We are looking forward to working with Macron again to provide an exciting range of leisurewear with a wider range of sizes to ensure we meet everyone’s expectations.

Financial Statements for year ending 30th June 2018

Wrexham AFC Limited is pleased to publish our financial statements for the year ending 30th June 2018.

wafc1864The financial statements show that the main source of income continues to be gate receipts and the improved performance on the pitch resulted in income from matches increasing by 26% on the previous season. Overall income was down but this was due to a reduction in transfer fees and prize money, none of which was budgeted for.

The increase in gate receipts along with the successful “Build the Budget” campaign did enable the Club to support the management team with total first team costs increasing to just under £1.1 million, an increase of 14% on the prior season.

The overall operating loss (excluding amortisation and depreciation) was £36,201 against an initial budgeted loss of £195,000 that was approved at Wrexham Supporters’ Trust AGM in June 2017.

When including the “Build the Budget” initiative of £50,000, that was injected as share capital by Wrexham Supporters Trust, the overall trading position of the Club (excluding amortisation and depreciation) was positive for the second successive season.

The Balance Sheet at 30th June 2018 shows an increase in cash reserves held at the year end and the total investment by supporters had increased above £1 million within seven years of ownership.

Wrexham AFC Limited - approved 2018 full statutory accounts for members

Directors for the Day - Maidstone

dewi director for the day 2Our 'Directors for the Day' for the Maidstone match were Junior Dragon member Dewi Heard and his dad, Craig.

Dewi, who is 7 years old and attends Ysgol Bodhyfryd, was the lucky winner of a Junior Dragon competition to be director for the day for our special Junior and Youth Dragon day game.

Dewi and Craig were hosted in the boardroom by WST board member and Junior Dragons Coordinator Robert Stock.

Following the game, Dewi sent us the following review of his special day:

'Ennillon ni gystadleuaeth ar facebook i fod yn “Director am y diwrnodd” gyda fy nhad, Craig.

Pan dan ni wedi cyrraeadd, gwelon ni Rob o Junior Dragons a cawson ni fwyd a diod yn y Board Room. Gwelon ni’r tlysau a ches i gyfle gafael arnyn nhw.

Wnaethon ni eistedd yn y cadeiriau cyfforddus i weld y gem, roedd Brian Flynn yn eistedd tu ol i ni ac roedd Gary Bennett yn eistedd wrth ymyl ni.

Ces i lot of bisgedi am hanner amser ac roedden nhw’n flasus iawn, roedd Rob wedi dwyn y bisgedi o’r bwrdd arall!

Sgoriodd Ben Tollitt yn yr hanner olaf ac roedden ni’n sgrechian.

Ar ol y gem, gwelon ni Ben Tollitt yn cael y champagne achos roedd o’n seren y gem. Cwrddon ni a Ben Tollitt, Shaun Pearson, Gary Bennett, Paul Rutherford (fy hoff chwaraewr!) a ges i diod gyda Rob.

Dw i di cael lot o hwyl fel Director am y dydd, roedd pawb yn neis iawn efo fi a roedd dad yn mwynhau hefyd. Diolch yn fawr iawn Rob, Junior Dragons ac i bawb yn y clwb.'

'I won the competition on Facebook to be Director for the day with my Dad, Craig.

When we arrived, we met Rob from the Junior Dragons and had food and drink in the board room. I saw the trophies and I got to hold them.

We sat in the comfy chairs to see the game, Brian Flynn sat close to us and Gary Bennett was sitting behind us.

I had lots of biscuits at half time and they were very tasty, Rob stole the biscuits from the other table!

Ben Tollitt scored in the second half and I cheered.

After the game, we saw Ben Tollitt was awarded the champagne because he was man of the match. I met Ben Tollitt, Shaun Pearson, Gary Bennett, Paul Rutherford (my favourite player!) and we had a drink with Rob.

I had a lot of fun being Director for the day, everyone was very nice and me and my Dad had lots of fun. Thank you very much to Rob, Junior Dragons and everyone at the club.'
