THORLEY, Mark

Candidates StatementMark Thorley

MThorleyMy Why - What I believe

Wrexham is a special club, and I have tremendous pride in being a club owner. Its a place I call home and a place where I belong. Having such pride and ownership drives my motivation to do more and have a stronger part in the clubs future. I believe in grass roots football and giving opportunities to the communitties around the club to be part of Wrexham, and allowing that boy or girl to kick a ball and play for us.

What I believe the club needs

I believe we need more doers, and less talkers - and I want to move myself from someone who speaks about wrexham to someone who does something! I believe we need to invest more in activities within the community and identify ways in which we can be relevant to the generations of the future.

What I’ll do

The decision to make this application did not come lightly - I know what it will take to be a good trust board member - it will take time and dedication, to attend meetings, develop ideas and put them into action - as well as hard work to raise funds and participate in activities that will drive the club trust forward. All of this I’m willing to do for the love of the club and the passion I want to share. I will bring with me the skills I have from my role as a Project Manager - I have great people skills and an ability to make connections and empathise with others. Equally I’m a great problem solver and ideas person - and being practical and hard working I demonstrate the tenacity needed in a role of this nature. I am a season ticket holder and have been for many years and take my son of 9 to see the match most weeks - and theres nothing I like more than to see his passion grow.

Who I am

I am 42 years old, and live in Calcoed near Holywell. I live there with my wife of 12 years and son who is 9, soon to be 10 in July. I am a proud Welshman and strongly believe in the Welsh heritage.

I have worked in social care for the last 15 years, beginning my career with 10 years working for the local authority as a manager of a mental health project, to more recently managing a social enterprise, for individuals with learning disabilities.

Being a keen Wrexham fan I enjoy watching the team play their home matches and have been fortunate to attend some away matches. Football is a big part of my life, and I catch any local game when I’m not able to attend the Wrexham game, enjoying watching the grass roots of the game. My son plays for the local community club, so I’m often found on the sidelines of his games cheering him on! Other than the football I’m a keen DIY’er and also enjoy walking when time permits.

I feel I would be an asset to the club as trust board member and would give it my best efforts and would welcome the opportunity to give back to the club that has given me so much over the years.
